Monsteropolis and Tiki Trouble seem a lot more "alive" than the other two tables. I think the boards are a touch uneven, though. Each board has extra areas to explore, such as the boss battle room above the squid's head. There are typically large features on each board, like the massive squid in Monsteropolis that give each scene some needed personality. The boards themselves are very attractive, each with a well implemented theme such as the beast-ravaged big city in Monsteropolis, the day-glo fantasy of Dreams & Nightmares, the jungles of Tiki Trouble, and the Geometry Wars-esque Neometric.
These artifacts can be spend in a store to buy extra power-ups for later play, such as ball savers, extra time for "missions," and extra balls. You must complete specific tasks, like running up a ramp or smashing cars, to locate artifacts. By far, the best mode is Adventure, which adds a collection mechanic that gives bouncing off the cars and penguins that decorate the tables some actual purpose. The first two play out like normal pinball. Freeballin' features a handful of different play modes: score attack, time attack, and adventure mode.
